Our drive to Royal Coffee was interesting since the road off of Coliseum was being worked on and access to Royal Coffee from the South was blocked. After 25 mins of extra driving, we found access from the North and parked. Immediately we were met by a friendly forklift driver and when I said "TeenyTinyCoffeeCompany", he smiled and said, "I have your order ready to go!"
My mom became curious about the warehouse and managed to meet up with Rocky, the warehouse manager who gave mom a complete tour of the Royal Coffee warehouse facility. Meeting up with them, Rocky explained that the warehouse was basically empty this time of year and if we came back to see it in May, we would see it completely full.
We spent hours there and it was not only an eye opener, I found that Rocky, like me believes that understanding coffee is a matter of education. I could not agree more and it is always our goal to teach our clients about the merits of drinking only the finest coffee!
Rocky loves his job and he is passionate about coffee and helping others who are getting into the business. I literally could sense that these people cared for all who choose Royal Coffee as their coffee broker. I felt humbled and elated that our small fledgling business was being treated with such seriousness and expectation that we will grow and Royal Coffee will be their to provide us the needed green coffee bean.
Rocky outlined how other coffee roasters started just like me and that they all grew taking care of their customers and bringing to market new innovations. One such company mentioned is Blue Bottle and Rocky was there to see them with their first order as he fondly remembered the owner coming to pick up his first bags of bean in a Volvo station wagon.
All of us buy our green from Royal Coffee. My friend Fabrice Moschetti suggested I start an account with Royal Coffee and I am better for it. Sweet Marias buys there green from Royal Coffee and so do countless other people in this customer service oriented industry. All of us who service the bean in the Bay Area rely on Royal Coffee as the supplier of some of the very finest organic an Fair Trade green coffee bean in the world.
Everyone I have met at Royal Coffee from the Emeryville office to the Warehouse exemplify the true sincerity of serious professionals who love their craft. I felt the love that was given today and it cemented the fact that I know I am securing a relationship with the best broker of coffee bean in the country. What an amazing cadre of professionals who truly do care deeply for their customer. Yes, Royal Coffee is the lifeblood of all of us who need coffee bean but they are also ones who make you feel as if you are royalty. Today, at Royal Coffee, I was a King and I must keep buying more bean to have the right to sit on the throne again. :)
My favorite part of the visit was seeing the indoor basketball court for the employees. I kept wanting to go over and shoot some hoops but the tour Rocky gave was equally compelling!
